Lake Michigan College (LMC) Therapy Classrooms
-
LOGAN has built strong partnerships with local higher education institutions, including Lake Michigan College, where we operate two dedicated therapy classrooms on campus. This location provides a unique, real-world learning environment designed to support adolescents and young adults ages 12 and up.
-
The LMC site is staffed by one center-based Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), with three additional in-home BCBAs supporting clients who receive services at this location. Being embedded on a college campus allows individuals to actively practice social skills in natural settings—interacting with students in hallways and common areas while building confidence and independence.
-
In addition to social development, staff use evidence-based learning principles and positive reinforcement to teach communication and daily living skills, improve overall functioning, and reduce challenging behaviors.
-
Occupational therapy services are provided by four Occupational Therapists based at our Benton Harbor center, who travel regularly to the LMC location. Our OTs work with individuals on self-care skills such as dressing and grooming, fine and gross motor development (including writing and balance), communication, and social interaction. Occupational therapy goals focus on improving attention, emotional regulation, confidence, and overall quality of life—supporting success at home, in school, and in the community.
-
Speech-Language Pathology services are also delivered on site by three Speech-Language Pathologists from our Benton Harbor center. SLPs help individuals strengthen verbal, nonverbal, and social communication by building conversation skills, understanding social nuances, and improving speech—essential skills for meaningful relationships and daily life.
-
Finally, LOGAN’s Family Support Therapy (FST) team provides services at the LMC location through both social skills groups and individualized support. The FST team helps individuals improve communication, manage stress, and foster positive relationships, further supporting success in community-based environments.
