Our Building Blocks team’s design of the ultimate outdoor play area has taken shape directly behind the Children’s Services building, with an asphalt track rimming a slide, bouncy animals, and teeter totter. Equally inviting are colorful swings, outdoor puzzles and games, and seating area for story time and sing-a-longs. Funds for this equipment were made available through grants from McDonald’s House Charities and CVS, and through the generosity of Bonnie Hay. Once the funds were secured, “people power” was all that was needed to make this dream come true. Despite muddy conditions and the threat of rain, approximately 75 volunteers joined forces the last weekend of October to assemble, build, mix concrete and mulch. Friends who stepped up to help included Congressman Joe Donnelly and his wife, Jill, the Notre Dame rugby team, area Girl Scouts, local students and even our “Par for the Cause” marathon golfer, Ben Berger. Through Make A Difference Michiana, the Notre Dame Club of St. Joe Valley brought enthusiastic volunteers in large numbers. Thanks to this energetic group, children served by Building Blocks and the Regional Autism Center now have an inviting outdoor place to play when they come to LOGAN. |
