About the documentary, "Where's Molly?"

In the not too distant past, children deemed less than perfect were often sent to state institutions and forgotten by their families. Molly Jo Daly was one such child, given over to the State of Oregon in 1957. Her older brother Jeff often wondered where she was and what happened to his sister, but if he asked out loud he was sent to his room, and eventually he learned not to ask.

Upon the deaths of his parents in 2004, Jeff found a note in his father’s wallet that again led him to ask the question, “Where’s Molly?” Documents in his father’s filing cabinet helped Jeff find Molly twelve hours later.

“Where’s Molly?”, a feature-length documentary developed by Jeff and his wife Cindy, addresses how the State of Oregon processed children like Molly over the years. In the film, Jeff also interviews family and friends to uncover the reasons behind his parents’ decision and the emotional impact of their action.
